American Documentary Film Festival screen gems:
Hollywood to Dollywood
Twin brothers Gary and Larry Lane travel from Hollywood to Dollywood as they chase their dream of personally delivering a copy of their original screen play to their idol, Dolly Parton. Having had no luck getting the screenplay into Parton’s hands via conventional methods, the brothers, along with friend and partner Mike Bowen, set off from Dolly’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and head East on I-40 for Pigeon Forge, TN, and Dollywood. Driving an RV (named Jolene), the intrepid band of travelers encounters everything from Floods in Nashville to an Oklahoma Tornado (along with a lot of characters in all the RV parks, hair salons and local bars in between).
The journey from Hollywood to Dollywood is an adventure, but it is also one of self-discovery for the brothers as they seek to redefine their relationship with their parents, confront their hopes, fears and ambitions, and understand the bigotry they encounter as they search for tolerance and acceptance (and the joy of realizing their biggest dream of personally handing their screenplay to Dolly Parton).
Hollywood to Dollywood features appearances by Leslie Jordan, Chad Allen, Beth Grant, Dustin Lance Black, Ann Walker (and maybe even Dolly herself). Also included are fifteen of Parton’s best-loved songs (which the brothers purchased the rights to with earnings from a television game show on which they appeared).
