COMING MAY 12 & 13, 2012:
The Palm Springs Cultural Center Presents:

The Young Americans’ Golden Anniversary Celebration & Show

A song and dance extravaganza.

The Palm Springs Cultural Center is bringing America’s original Glee Club – The Young Americans – back to Palm Springs – with an all-new song and dance extravaganza designed to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the group’s founding by Milton C. Anderson in 1962. Two exclusive performances, featuring the latest generation of Young Americans, along with some very special Young Americans from the past, will take place at the Palm Springs High School Auditorium the weekend of May 12th and 13th. The shows feature a wide range of music, from traditional choral music to the latest Broadway hits, and every type of dance you can imagine – from classical ballet to modern hip hop. It’s fast-paced and fun-filled entertainment the whole family will love, with musical favorites from every generation.

“We are thrilled to be able to share this once-in-a-lifetime event with Coachella Valley residents,” said Ric Supple, Chairman of the Board for The Palm Springs Cultural Center. “The Young Americans have been entertaining audiences all over the world for fifty years, and their performances just keep getting better. We felt we could not pass up the opportunity to bring the Golden Anniversary Show to Palm Springs for everyone to enjoy.”

The Young Americans were the first performance group to blend choreography with choral music, and now serve as the oldest and largest youth music advocacy group in the world. They currently operate seven International Outreach Tours each year; traveling throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Japan. They also operate The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts in Southern California. Students participating in the College of the Performing Arts Program earn Performance Certificates in the areas of music, dance, performance and teaching methods.

Each year, The Young Americans bring National Music Outreach Workshops into high schools throughout the world, bringing music and dance back into schools, and opening doors of discovery for the musical talents of young people. With financial support from the City of Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Cultural Center, Palm Springs High School hosted a Music Outreach Workshop with The Young Americans in January of 2012. Over 200 local high school and middle school students attended the workshop, and several actually auditioned to become Young Americans. The Golden Anniversary Celebration and Show brings The Young Americans back to the Palm Springs High School in a triumphant celebration of the performing arts!
